The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) was established in 1971 under the Ministry of
Human Resources to implement and administer the Social Security Schemes under the Social Security Act, 1969, the
Employment Injury Insurance Scheme and Invalidity Pension Scheme. Under this scheme, employees are given protection related to employment injury, including accidents in the course of employment, occupational diseases, invalidity and death. Among the functions performed by SOCSO is a registered employer and employee, employer and employee contributions to collect, process claims and pay benefits to workers and dependents suffer.
In addition, SOCSO also provides physical and vocational rehabilitation benefits as well as promoting awareness of
occupational safety and health. In July 1985, SOCSO status as a Government Department has been transformed into a statutory body. While on January 1, 1992, SOCSO has implemented its own system of remuneration, the New Remuneration System SOCSO (SSBP).
