The University was named after Malaysia's second Prime Minister, the late YAB Tun Abdul Razak bin Dato' Hussein, and officially launched on 21 December 1998 by Tun Abdul Razak's eldest son, YAB Dato' Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, current Prime Minister of Malaysia
